A newly elected city council in Girard, Ohio may be ready to dump its controversial speed camera program. At a meeting on Monday, five of the eight council members moved to declare an "emergency" that would allow an immediate vote to remove the devices. Although a majority supported the parliamentary maneuver making such a vote possible, it failed to achieve the required six-vote supermajority. The proposal will now need to undergo two additional readings before adoption.
