A new speed measuring system is being tested in Australia that adds GPS technology to the classic laser and radar-based speed guns. The system connects the speed gun to a data recorder that captures position data from GPS satellites, increasing the documentation available to the police for evidence. Officers can also use the same GPS system to record precise information on accident locations.Acting Inspector Allan Hales said drivers would no longer be able to accuse officers of booking them for someone else's offence."It negates any issue of the same speed being used on different motorists," he said.Source: New cop radar up to speed (Queensland Sunday Mail (Australia), 5/1/2005)
