UK: Disabled Woman Ticketed for Upside Down Parking Permit
A disabled woman received a ticket while mailing Christmas cards because her valid handicapped parking permit was upside down.

Disabled parking permit
A disabled 90-year-old woman received a £60 (US $118) parking ticket in Dundee, Scotland because her valid handicapped parking permit was accidentally hung upside down. Catherine Clarke had parked her car on Fort Street in Broughty Ferry so that she could mail some Christmas cards with her daughter, Carol Scott. The two returned to find the fine levied on their windshield.

"I don't know how they can sleep at night," Scott told the Tayside and Fife Courier. "It's very mean-spirited, especially at Christmas."

Although the parking permit was visible the Dundee City Council claims that meter maids must be able to read the details clearly. The council generated £404,935 (US $798,618) from 24,916 tickets issued last year.
