Hawaii Legislature Rejects Red Light Cameras
Hawaii Senate committee rejects red light camera legislation.
The Hawaii Senate Transportation Committee rejected legislation that would have required the use of red light cameras in the state.
It is unlikely following this action that the legislature would approve any camera legislation this session. Hawaii experimented with speed cameras in 2002, but the "van cams" caused so much outrage that the program was quickly cancelled.
Article Excerpt:While a separate "red light enforcement camera" bill is moving through the House, the action on the Senate side is a strong indicator that there will not be enough support for the return of traffic-enforcement cameras this legislative session.
