Girard, OH May Dump Speed Camera
A majority of Girard, Ohio city council members think speed camera removal is an urgent agenda item.

Girard, OhioA newly elected city council in Girard, Ohio may be ready to dump its controversial speed camera program. At a meeting on Monday, five of the eight council members moved to declare an "emergency" that would allow an immediate vote to remove the devices. Although a majority supported the parliamentary maneuver making such a vote possible, it failed to achieve the required six-vote supermajority. The proposal will now need to undergo two additional readings before adoption.

The measure's author, Councilman Tom Seidler, claims the camera has been driving business away from the city as patrons chose to shop elsewhere. The camera was stolen last week, but quickly replaced by a second device that the city had been testing.
