Cyprus Cameras Installed on Wrong Side of the Road
Ticket camera vendor does not realize drivers in Cyprus use the left-hand side of the road.

Robot systems logoOfficials in the Mediterranean island nation of Cyprus are red-faced after paying 11 million Euros (US $13 million) for a ticket camera system that simply does not work. Robot Visual Systems GMBH of Monheim, Germany apparently did not realize that drivers in Cyprus use the left-hand side of the road. The company installed cameras to monitor drivers as if they drove as Germans do on the right-hand side. Some have also questioned whether the digital photographs taken of the front of the vehicle would withstand legal scrutiny.

The German vendor signed the contract to install 195 fixed and eight mobile speed cameras in June. The same German company runs "Traffipax" cameras in Ohio and Maryland.
