Pennsylvania State Police Kill Survey Checkpoint Plan
Pennsylvania state troopers refuse to pull over motorists to conduct a traffic survey.

Pennsylvania state troopers have made it clear they want nothing to do with a proposal announced this week that would have had police pull over motorists on highways to conduct a traffic planning survey. Pennsylvania's Department of Transportation and a private contractor had announced their survey plan before actually securing the necessary cooperation of the state troopers.

In response to media inquiries, Pennsylvania State Police officials said that they never agreed to conduct the checkpoints. As a result, PennDOT has decided to drop the idea and proceed with less intrusive survey methods. Texas, Kansas and other states have recently implemented traffic surveys using police to randomly pull over motorists to take part.
