Washington State Deploys Unmarked Police Big Rigs
Washington State Police will begin using an unmarked police 18-wheeler truck to help ticket drivers.

Big rig truckOn Monday, Washington State Police will begin using an unmarked police 18-wheeler truck and a spotter helicopter in an effort to ticket motorists on the I-5 freeway. The idea is to follow the model of the "Click it or Ticket" campaign and issue as many tickets as possible to "aggressive" drivers in "smaller vehicles."

A $600,000 grant from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration is funding the effort. NHTSA hopes to study the performance of the Washington program in the hopes of deploying it nationwide.
