Maryland Governor Eliminates Night Vision Seat Belt Stops
Maryland Governor Robert L. Ehrlich ordered state police to cease using night vision to stop motorists for not wearing seat belts.

Gov. Robert L. EhrlichResponding swiftly to complaints, Maryland Governor Robert L. Ehrlich put a stop to police use of military-style night vision equipment to spot motorists who failed to buckle up. The governor issued an order to the Maryland State Police directing them to cease the practice only four days after it was first reported.

"Gov. Ehrlich isn't a fan of big brother tactics when it comes to law enforcement. That's the very reason why he vetoed speed cameras," Ehrlich spokesman Shareese DeLeaver told the Associated Press.

State police have issued $750,000 worth of seat belt tickets so far this year.
