UK: Speed Camera Burned, Meter Maid Bumped
Vigilante uses fire to destroy a Chiseldon, UK speed camera while a driver runs a meter maid foot.

A speed camera in Wiltshire, England was set on fire early Wednesday. The device had been issuing tickets on the A346 Marlborough Road in the village of Chiseldon. Vigilantes used a burning tire to silence the device. Wiltshire and Swindon Speed Camera Partnership officials admitted the number of attacks on cameras has been on the rise in the area.

"We haven't had a problem with damage to cameras in the Swindon and Wiltshire for seven years," Sergeant Nick Blencowe told the Swindon Advertiser newspaper. "But since then we think there might have been copycat incidents in the county after damage in the Avon and Somerset areas."

In the West Midlands, a motorist was convicted of running over a meter maid's foot yesterday. The Express and Star newspaper reports that West Bromwich Magistrates Court fined Stuart Bishop, 31, a sum of £385 ($770) for reacting to a December 14 parking ticket by driving his Seat Leon automobile over the issuing warden's foot.
