Canada: Quebec May Ban Fast Car Ads
Speeding transport minister in Quebec, Canada proposes a ban on advertisements for high-performance automobiles.

Advertisements for high-performance vehicles may disappear from television, radio and print in Quebec, Canada next year. The province is considering adding a speech limitation amendment to sweeping legislation that imposes speed limiters on trucks, approves red light cameras and photo radar and increases the amount of money collected from motorists from traffic fines.

Transport Minister Julie Boulet yesterday offered a provision to Bill 42 that would have Quebec's equivalent of the Department of Motor Vehicles create a set of restrictions banning car ads that show "heedless, careless or dangerous behavior and gestures." Boulet also wants to extend the ban to advertisements for snowmobiles.

Boulet herself does not follow the anti-speeding message. In November, she was caught being driven in a government car at 132km/h (82 MPH) in a 100 km/h (62 MPH) zone. Had Bill 42 been in effect, her driver would have faced $700 in fines.
