California: Association Issues Tickets for Street Parking

Laguna AudubonA homeowners association in Aliso Viejo, California is issuing fines to residents for parking on public streets instead of in driveways or garages. The Laguna Audubon II association board members paid a company called Patrol Masters $1800 a month to distribute warning notices to residents for violating a vague rule that says vehicles can only be left in "designated parking areas."

For resident Rick Hocking, that meant a $100 ticket for parking a blue Chevrolet Silverado on the street, even though Hocking does not own a blue Silverado.

Curtis Randall described an association meeting earlier this month with sixty residents as "rowdy."

"There was some shouting and loud arguing," Randall told the Orange County Register newspaper. "A lot of yelling and people are just upset."
