4/23/2018France, Germany, UK: Speed Cameras Taken Out
Vigilantes thwarted a number of speed cameras across France, Germany and the UK last week.
A man in a hood climbed on top of a car issuing automated tickets to vehicles in the bus lane at Falls Road in West Belfast, Northern Ireland on Tuesday and disabled the camera. According to Belfast Live, the driver of the camera car got out and a fight ensued.
In Saint-Julien-Les-Villas, a pair of red light cameras on the Boulevard de Dijon were covered with a yellow sock, Liberation Champagne reported. Stickers were used to disable the speed camera on the A6 in Savigny-sur-Orge the previous weekend, according to Le Parisien. Black spraypaint took out the speed camera on the RN88 in Pont-Salomon on Friday, Le Progres reported. This was the sixth automated ticketing machine taken out in Haute-Loire over the past ten days.
Police in Nordrhein-Wesfalen, Germany on Tuesday reported they were investigating the operator of a speed camera in Freudenberg for "carrying out speed measurements" while high on marijuana. Police dispatched to the location found a small amount of pot on the employee, who was taken into custody for a blood test. In Baden-Wuerttemberg, vigilantes spraypainted what appeared to be a speed camera column on Neue Wolterdinger Strasse near Wolterdingen with neon yellow spraypaint. According to Suedkurier, the device was not issuing tickets.
