11/14/2016France, Germany: Speed Cameras Rammed, Torched, Painted
A variety of techniques were used last week to ensure speed cameras in France and Germany would not issue tickets.
In Sainte-Sigolene, France, vigilantes on Sunday disabled the speed camera on the RD44. According to La Gazette de la Haute Loire, the weapon of choice was a can of red spraypaint. On Wednesday, a stolen car was used to ram and then set fire to a speed camera on the D13 in Elancourt, Info Normandie reported. In Chavagne, a burning tire was used to torch the speed camera on the CD34 last week Saturday, Ouest France reported.
Officials in Schwerte, Germany on Friday restored a traffic camera that had failed to prevent an accident. According to Westfälische Anzeiger, a car ran into the camera pole on Ruhrtal Strasse on March 14, putting it out of commission for eight months.
