Australia: Road Safety Billboard is Distracting Drivers
Drivers are distracted by government-sponsored road safety billboard in Victoria, Australia.

TAC billboardDrivers in Melbourne, Australia are taking their eyes off the road to look at harshly worded billboards authorized by the Victorian government and designed by the Transport Accident Commission. A set of more than a dozen billboards display slogans such as, "Only a little bit over? You bloody idiot" throughout the region.

According to a recent survey by the Australian government's Transport Safety Bureau, thirteen percent of drivers believe distraction is the main cause of road accidents. The same survey showed 62 percent of motorists thought speed cameras were primarily intended to raise revenue.

Last October, the Transport Accident Commission's advertising campaign claimed, "even a moment's distraction can lead to a lifetime of consequences."
