France, Italy: Vigilantes Thwart Speed Cameras
More speed cameras were taken out of service by vigilantes in Italy and France last week.

Destroyed speed cameraIn Pisa, Italy, a speed camera was destroyed Sunday morning after the device failed to prevent an accident. Three women aged 24 to 27 suffered serious injuries after their Nissan collided with the photo radar unit on the Viale D'Annunzio, according to Il Tirreno. In Pesaro, a 28-year-old man was accused of smashing a speed camera with an ax, Il Resto del Carlino reported.

In Jura, France, a vigilante used blue spraypaint to disable three speed cameras on Thursday. According to Le Progres, the artist signed his work with a stencil that read "Octo" and the image of an octopus. Black spraypaint blinded the speed camera on the RD165 near Dompaire on Thursday, Vosges Matin reported. On Tuesday, a pair of speed cameras on the RD988 in Les Mazures were painted black. According to L'Ardennais, the same devices had been blinded on July 8. On Wednesday, the speed camera on the RN13 in Isigny-sur-Mer was destroyed by burning tires, La Manche Libre reported.
